What do you do?

Just an interesting question I've always had for members. What would you do if your forum lacked activity?
Rey
This is hard.. maybe.. post in it? :B
Sy
I'd recommend getting everyone to post whore on as many threads as possible.
Ashmnafa
Whatever is going on with Teh Place is what I would do.

I'm not falling for your ad. <3

I'd probably use mass emails for activation results.
kitepryo
Well it depents on what type of post.

Run around in circles, as fast as I can, and screen "activity, activity, activity!" while waving a flag that contains the URL of the forum in question.

Either that, or find out where the forum's been advertised, and expand the ad area. tongue.gif

Oh, and I'd post on it.

just before the beginning of the year my forum had been dead for about a year.

so!

i cahnged the skin
moved around some of the forums/subsections, created new ones
advertised like hell (and still do every day)
went on service forums and requested packages and reviews
asked my mates to join and tell theyre friends
added an arcade
added a video index hosted by wordpress blog
added a radio hosted by last.fm
found other music sites to affiliate with
added the forum to directorys & topsites

just goes to show you should give up
roladka
form a tight community of friendly posters and devote the forum to the minority

IF my forum lack activity, I'd have to make it look more interesting and try to get as many posters as possible (without attracting too much troublemakers) to keep the activity up.

What defines a low amount of activity? I have had my message board for almost 5 years, we have had our high times, couple thousand posts a day. But for the last year, it been no more than 500 daily, and we only have a small community of about 15 users who still come daily. But that is how we like it. To keep people interested though, I add a lot of custom skins and modules. Best thing though is just a group of people who know eachother well enough to not want to leave.

If my forum started to become inactive I would probably try and do something big to jumpstart it and to get activity in it I'd send mass newsletters to all my members and personally talk to them in MSN and whatnot.

I had this problem with MM. I made the RPG much better, made more things to discuss and got some very influential people back on and voila, we're back in business. o:

So ya, I refresh ideas and all that and try and get people back. If it fails, I either give up or try again. o:

Like a project? tongue.gif

Yeah, projects can sometimes really make forums active. I tried one once with NR, and it seemed to work really well. I got resur to join and...

Well, look at where we are now. tongue.gif
